OREM, Utah - The UVU basketball team hosts a streaking Georgia State squad on Saturday night in the UCCU Center at 7:05 p.m. MT. The Wolverines (6-5) last defeated Portland State on Dec. 10 while the Panthers (7-3) come to Orem having won seven straight.
The game can be heard live on 960 AM the Zone and will air on UVU-TV with live streaming available at WolverineGreen.com.
In the UVU win over the Vikings last Saturday, Holton Hunsakerscored a career-high 26 points and matched his high with four steals. He also set a new school record by hitting all 16 of his free throw attempts, the most made by any UVU player in a single game without a miss. Hunsaker was named the Great West Conference Player of the Week on Monday, the third time this season a UVU player has received the award.
Georgia State is beating opponents by an average of over 24 points per game during its current win streak. Led by first-year head coach Ron Hunter, GSU is coming off of a pair of 32-point victories, in their Colonial Athletic Association opener over William & Mary, and against Rhode Island.
"Georgia State's quick and athletic and playing very aggressive. Their defensive scheme will be a real challenge for us," said UVU head coach Dick Hunsaker. "They're playing very well under Coach Hunter.
The Panthers defeated UVU 69-56 last season in Atlanta and have won both prior meetings between the schools. GSU is led by Devonta White's 12.7 points per game while Jihad Ali is scoring 11.8 points and Eric Buckner adds 11.2 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.4 blocks per contest.
Isiah Williams leads the Wolverines and is tied for first among all GWC players with 15.6 points per game with Geddes Robinsonaveraging 11.1 points and a conference-leading 9.8 rebounds.
Following Saturday's game, UVU hits the road for Maine (Dec. 19) and Montana (Dec. 22) for its final two contests prior to Christmas.
