Wolverines Record Top-10 Finish at Bandon Dunes
March 10, 2013
"I'm really proud of the guys," UVU coach Chris Curran said. "We got off to a good start and we let a few shots slip away, but all in all it was a good day."
The Wolverines (+22) entered the final round at the par-72, 6.902-yard Old Macdonald Course in 11th place and recorded a final-round 288 to finish in the top 10.
"Our guys are finally starting to believe in themselves," Curran said.
Mason Casper (73-75-69) led the Wolverines with a final-round 3-under 69 -- the Wolverines' second 69 of the tournament -- and vaulted 14 spots to finish in a tie for 11th.
"Mason had a good round today," Curran said. "He finally had a few putts drop."
He was one of six players to finish the tournament at 1-over par.
Behind Casper, Michael Dart (75-74-73) finished in a tie for 31st, followed by Stratton Schulz (83-69-72), who for 39th, Brayden Eriksen (76-76-76), who tied for 65th and Corey Eccles (80-75-74), who tied for 68th.
The University of Colorado (-2) won the tournament, followed by Fresno State (+3) and the University of Washington (+9).
Fresno State's Triox Tonkham won the tournament at -6.
The Wolverines are back in action April 8-9 at the COG-Mizzou Tiger Invitational in Columbia, Missouri.
