March 10, 2013
BANDON, Ore. -- The Utah Valley University men's golf team shot the fourth-best round of the day Sunday and moved up three spots to finish eighth overall at the Bandon Dunes Championship hosted by Gonzaga University. "I'm really proud of the guys," UVU coach Chris Curran said. "We got off to a good start and we let a few shots slip away, but all in all it was a good day." The Wolverines (+22) entered the final round at the par-72, 6.902-yard Old Macdonald Course in 11th place and recorded a final-round 288 to finish in the top 10. "Our guys are finally starting to believe in themselves," Curran said. Mason Casper (73-75-69) led the Wolverines with a final-round 3-under 69 -- the Wolverines' second 69 of the tournament -- and vaulted 14 spots to finish in a tie for 11th. "Mason had a good round today," Curran said. "He finally had a few putts drop." He was one of six players to finish the tournament at 1-over par. Behind Casper, Michael Dart (75-74-73) finished in a tie for 31st, followed by Stratton Schulz (83-69-72), who for 39th, Brayden Eriksen (76-76-76), who tied for 65th and Corey Eccles (80-75-74), who tied for 68th.
