COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Through 36 holes at the COG Mizzou Intercollegiate at The Club at Old Hawthorne, the Utah Valley University men's golf team sits in a tie for seventh place out of 12 teams.

With a pair of 70s, UVU's Mason Casper sits in a tie for third place at 4-under par. From there, the nearest Wolverine is Stratton Schulz (76-74) whose +6 places him in a four-way tie for 34th.

"Mason (Casper) hit the ball really solid today and putted very well," said men's golf coach Chris Curran. "As a team, we dug ourselves a big hole in the first round. We played better in the second round but threw away too many shots on the greens."

With a team score of 594, the Wolverines are tied with Creighton for seventh place headed into Tuesday's final round. UVU is just three strokes back of sixth-placed Central Missouri and four strokes back of fifth-placed South Dakota State.

Host university Missouri has a strong lead through day one, posting a 557 (-19) for a 16-stroke advantage over Austin Peay (573, -3).

All five Tigers entered in the field hold spots in the top 10, led by Emilio Cuartero's (68-69) 7-under. UM's Ryan Zech (70-70) is tied with Casper just three shots off the lead.

In his first round on the par-72, 7,221-yard course, Casper recorded five birdies but also had three bogeys. A double-bogey on the third hole was Casper's worst of the second round, but he overcame that blemish by posting four more birdies and playing bogey-free during the remainder of the round.

Mike Dart and Corey Eccles each went 77-75 in their two rounds Monday, placing them in a tie for 40th. Rounding out the field for Utah Valley is Brayden Eriksen (78-80) in a tie for 56th.

The third and final round gets underway Tuesday at 7 a.m. MT. Schulz and Casper will be the first Wolverines out, teeing off at 7 a.m. from hole 10.
