UVU in Fifth at Battle in the Tetons

VICTOR, Idaho -- After the first two rounds of the Battle in the Tetons Monday, defending champion Utah Valley University sits in fifth place heading into Tuesday's final round. UVU's Joey Olson carded rounds of 72-73 and is tied for sixth, while Mason Casper, who won the individual title at 14-under par last year, is currently tied for 11th after rounds of 74-72 at the par-72, 7,373-yard Headwaters Golf Club. At 562, the University of Wyoming is dusting the field in holding a 24-shot lead over second-place Valparaiso (586). Places 2-7, however, are separated by 12 shots. Behind Valparaiso, Weber State is third (591) followed by Utah State (593), Utah Valley (594), South Dakota State (596) and Southern Utah (598). Wyoming's Eddie Stewart (68-69) leads the tournament over teammate Eric Parish (68-70) by one shot. Behind Olson and Casper, UVU's Brayden Eriksen (75-77) is tied for 29th, while Preston Richards (75-80) is in 37th. Freshman Corey Eccles, who fired an opening-round 71 Monday, was disqualified. Playing as individuals, UVU's Stratton Schulz (78-75) and Nick Smart (73-80) are tied for 33rd, while Mike Dart (83-75) is tied for 41st.
