NORTH FALMOUTH, Mass. - Defending champion Nick Nelson shot 1-over-par 73 and is in fourth place, two shots behind the leader, after the opening round of the America Sky Conference Championship on Monday.

The rain-shortened tournament is being played in conjunction with the Hartford Hawks Invitational at Ballymeade Country Club in North Falmouth, Mass. Originally scheduled for 54 holes, the invite was narrowed down to 36 holes after Sunday's cancellation. The final round will be played Tuesday morning.

Nelson, who won last year's inaugural conference championship in Layton, Utah, trails leader Scott DeBorba of Sacramento State who fired a 1-under-par 71. Two golfers were even on the day while Nelson is tied with Hartford's Kyle Parsons in the fourth spot.

Skyler Distefano is also in the top-20 after a 7-over 79 while Adam Tayler shot 9-over-par 81 and is in 26th place. The Wolverines are in seventh place overall, three shots behind Northern Colorado after a team score of 319.
