PALM DESERT, Calif. - Utah Valley golfer Nick Nelson finished in third place after a 1-under-par 71 on Sunday at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, California.

Nelson finished two shots back of Denver's Daniel Wax and Washington State's Kevin Tucker. Wax won a scorecard playoff to take home medalist honors by virtue of shooting the lower round, a 4-under 68, to Tucker's 72 in the final round.

As a team the Wolverines shot a combined score of 313 and finished in 18th place out of 19 teams, two shots behind Wyoming. Colorado State won the team title with a three-day total of 877, seven shots better than Idaho.

Freshman Nicholas Tarasiewicz was the next highest finisher for UVU with a final round 7-over 79 to end in a tie for 76th. Clark Fredrickson was one shot back of Tarasiewicz with an 8-over-par 80 on Sunday.

For Nelson, the Alpine, Utah native recorded his second straight top-five finish after a fourth place showing at last week's America Sky Championship. He has led the Wolverines at all four fall events this season.

Utah Valley will now wrap up its fall schedule at the Bill Cullum Invitational on Oct. 27-28 in Northridge, Calif.
