Day 1 Results
Las Vegas, Nevada - Utah Valley State struggled on day one at the District 7 Shootout in Las Vegas and is currently in 14th place out of 15 teams after shooting a team score of +25 (593).
Senior Nic van Vuuren was 4-over for the day and is tied for 56th to lead the Wolverines at the Angel Park Mountain Course.
van Vuuren shot a 76 in the opening round but rebounding in the afternoon to shoot a 70 for UV's low round of the day.
Dustin Robinson was 5-over for the day and tied for 62nd while Andrew Smith, Jeff Gibson and Adam Tayler each shot 9-over and are tied for 78th.
"We're playing better as a whole, but simply, we just have to up our games," said Utah Valley coach Tommy Johnson. "Each guy has got to find a way to drop a couple of shots. But we can't hang our heads and I look for our guys to come out swinging tomorrow and hopefully improve on our position."
San Diego State has a 10-shot lead over Colorado State after shooting -18 (550) through two rounds.
Boise State's Troy Merritt leads the individual standings after a 2nd round 62 helped him to 11-under, three shots better than San Diego State's Aaron Goldberg.
The final 18 holes will be played beginning Tuesday morning.
