ST. GEORGE, Utah -€“ Utah Valley State shot a 303 during its final round and finished the Thunderbird Invitational 23-over, good for fifth place on Tuesday.
Tadd Cox led the way for the Wolverines at Sunbrook Golf Club. He shot a 74 (+2) in the first round and finished with an even par 72 in the final round. Cox jumped 10 spots in the medalist standings finishing 8 th. Nic van Vuuren, who after the first round was sitting in 4 th place in the individual standings, dropped 22 spots. He shot a 9-over 81 on Tuesday.
Milo Lines improved three strokes during the final round, and seven spots in the medalist standings. His 73 (+1) secured him a spot in the top 20 as he finished 17 th. Cody Powers shot a 77 (+5) and finished tied with van Vuuren at 26 th, and Ben Ward rounded out the Wolverine scorers finishing 42 nd with a frustrating round of 82 (+10).
Other Utah Valley State golfers competing in the Thunderbird Invitational, but not playing for the team score were: Eric Jensen (26 th), Ryan Sausedo (32 nd), and Jeff Gibson (32 nd).
The Wolverines will have over a month to work out the kinks and get back on track. Utah Valley State will hit the road again to compete in the 2005 Fidelity National Title Intercollegiate in Arroyo Grande, California on March 24-25.
