Dates: April 11-12, 2005
Tournament: George Buzzini Sr. Stanislaus Invitational
Host School: Cal State Stanislaus
Golf Course: Turlock Country Club ~ Turlock, California
The Utah Valley State golf team is back in action April 11-12 as they travel to northern California to compete in the George Buzzini Sr. Stanislaus Invitational. The tournament will be played at the Turlock Country Club in Turlock, California.
"This is a first class tournament," said Head Golf Coach, Tommy Johnson. "The tournament has been around for about 34 years. Turlock Country Club is very mature golf course and it should be a very competitive field."
Johnson will travel two players (Nic van Vuuren and Milo Lines) who have seen action in all seven tournaments so far this season and will give three players (Ben Ward, Ryan Sausedo, and Chris Cole) who have seen limited tournament time the chance to prove themselves. Chris Cole will get the call for the first time this season.
"We expect to finish in the top half of this field," said Johnson. "Nic [van Vuuren] expects to win the tournament and he definitely could."
Van Vuuren continues to lead the way in scoring average per round at 72.9. Among the other travelers, Lines averages a 75.4 per round, Sausedo and Ward are averaging a 78.8 per round and Cole will register his first tournament score on Monday, April 11th.
"This group of players have a great attitude and will fight," added Johnson. "They all have something to prove."
After playing in the George Buzzini Sr. Stanislaus Invitational the Wolverines will finish their 2004-2005 golf campaign by competing in the Cougar Classic hosted by in-state rival, Brigham Young University. The tournament will be held at the Riverside Country Club in Provo.
