Division I All-Independent Teams
OREM, Utah - Utah Valley State sophomore golfer, Nic van Vuuren was named to the First Team Division I All-Independent team on Monday for his accomplishments during the 2004-2005 golf season. The teams were compiled by D-I Independent sports information directors and based on stroke average.
Van Vuuren had the third lowest stroke average among all Independent players. In nine events and 26 rounds van Vuuren totaled 1893 strokes, an average of 72.8 strokes per round. He shot a career best 7-under at the Ron Moore Invitational finishing third overall. He also finished fourth shooting 1-under at the Stanislaus Invitational, and fifth shooting 3-under at the Fidelity National Title Intercollegiate tournament.
In the nine events he competed in during the Fall and Spring season he had six top-30 finishes. His best single round (and career low round) came in the third and final round of the Ron Moore Invitational when he fired in a 7-under, 65.
Van Vuuren holds the season and career low stroke average at Utah Valley State and his single round of 65 (-7), and tournament round of 209 (-7) both rank second on the school career low single round, and low tournament round list.
