OREM, Utah - Utah Valley senior golfer Nic van Vuuren was named to the Division I All-Independent golf team on Thursday, the third time in his career he has received the honor. He was named the independent Golfer of the Year in 2006.
The South African native had three top-5 and five top-10 finishes, including a second place finish at the Vandal Fall Classic and a third place finish at the Division I Independent Championship.
In 11 tournaments, van Vuuren had a stroke average of 72.5 for the Wolverines, who finished second at the independent championship at the end of April.
UC Davis' Louie Bishop was named the 2007 Golfer of the Year while Adam Webb of Longwood was named Newcomer of the Year. Longwood coach Kevin Fillman was named Coach of the Year.
On the women's side, UC Davis swept the awards with Bryana Gregory being named Golfer of the Year, Sydney Roughton as newcomer and Kathy DeYoung the Coach of the Year.
