2013-14 Men's Golf Schedule

OREM, Utah -- Utah Valley University men's golf coach Chris Curran has released his 2013-14 tournament schedule, a slate that sees UVU compete in 10 tournaments before rounding out the year with their first appearance at the Western Athletic Conference Championships.

The Wolverines' 10 tournaments take place across seven states, all of which lie in the western side of the country. In fact, Victor, Idaho -- the location of the season opening Battle in the Tetons -- stands as the most easterly site on the 2013-14 UVU schedule.

"I am excited about this year's schedule and geography is a big reason," said Curran, entering his fourth season as the headman. "This year we are primarily playing on the West Coast, which gives us an opportunity to play against some of the best teams in the country."

For the third consecutive season, Utah Valley will open the season at the Battle in the Tetons. The Wolverines have experienced a great deal of success at the Headwaters Golf Club, claiming the top spot in 2011 before finishing in a tie for third a season ago. This year's edition runs Sept. 2-3.

From there, UVU hits the Palouse for the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate in Pullman, Wash., from Sept. 9-10. The Wolverines finished in 11th place in 2012 out of a field that featured host Washington State, Arizona, San Jose State, and Gonzaga.

The month of September rounds out with a trip to the Boise State Dash Thomas Memorial on the 23rd. In 2012, UVU experienced its top team finish of the season at the Memorial, taking second place behind WSU.

Utah Valley will play just two tournaments in October, appearing at the Utah Invitational in Park City on Oct. 7-8 before rounding out the schedule's 2013 portion at the Bill Cullum Invitational in Simi Valley, Calif., on Oct. 21-22.

After a break of a little over three months, the Wolverines return to action in February of 2014 at the Pat Hicks Invitational hosted by Southern Utah University. The two-day tournament runs Feb. 10-11. An appearance at the Snowman Getaway in Goodyear, Ariz., on Feb. 24-25 closes the month for UVU.

On March 9-11, the Wolverines make their fifth consecutive trip to the Bandon Dunes Championship in Bandon, Ore. Last season, UVU finished in eighth place amidst a field that included tournament champion Colorado as well as Washington, Oregon, UCLA, and Fresno State.

"Bandon is always a tournament that sticks out on the schedule," Curran said. "Given the field, the location, and the course, I think it's a trip that the guys will never forget."

The Jackrabbit Invitational in Primm, Nev., runs March 17-18 followed by a month's break for the Wolverines before closing out the regular season at the Winchester Classic in Meadow Vista, Calif., on Apr. 18-20.

UVU will make its first-ever appearance at the WAC Championships May 2-4 in Henderson, Nev. There, the Wolverines will look to qualify for a team spot at the NCAA Regional tournament later in the month.

"I expect us to be very competitive our first year in the WAC," said Curran. "We competed against every WAC school at some point last season and for the most part experienced a great deal of success and we plan to continue that."

In the four years prior to this season, Utah Valley men's golf has competed in the America Sky Conference. During that time, Curran and the Wolverines saw two-time ASC Golfer of the Year Mason Casper advance to the NCAA Regionals in both 2012 and 2013.
