OREM, Utah -- After a break of nearly two weeks, the Utah Valley University men's golf team returns to action Monday at the Dash Thomas Memorial hosted by Boise State. It is the third tournament on the young season for UVU.
The tournament will be contested over 54 holes at the BanBury Golf Course in Eagle, Idaho, which plays a par-71 at 6,890 yards. Thirty-six holes will be played Monday, beginning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start, followed by a final-round 18 starting at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. It is the first tournament in 12 days for the Wolverines since finishing 11th at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate in Pullman, Wash.
"We're looking to get back on track this week," said head coach Chris Curran. "We need to stick to our game and play smart golf in order to be successful against a solid field of competitors."
Representing the Wolverines this week are juniors Mike Dart, Brayden Eriksen, and Preston Richards along with sophomores Noah Cook and Corey Eccles. They will compete amidst a field of 12 that includes host BSU as well as Cal State Fullerton, Concordia, Sacramento State, Southern Utah, Stetson, Utah State and Weber State. Fellow WAC members Grand Canyon, Idaho, and Seattle will also be on hand at the Memorial.
UVU was very successful at this tournament last season, finishing in second for the year's best finish. Then-senior Mason Casper also became Utah Valley's all-time leader in wins at last year's event, capturing his third outright tournament title. That tourney was played at The Club at SpurWing, and of the Wolverines making their return to the Memorial, Eccles posted last year's best finish with a one-over and a tie for 15th.
Eriksen currently leads the Wolverines in scoring average at 71.50 per round, and matched his career's best individual finish with a runner-up mark at the Battle in the Tetons to open the season. Richards' 72.17 is next, followed by Eccles at 73.00.
