OREM, Utah --With three tournaments already under its belt in 2013, the Utah Valley University men's golf team heads to the Utah Invitational this week as it begins to wind down the fall portion of its schedule. Played the Jeremy Golf and Country Club in Park City, the Invitational takes place Monday and Tuesday.

A 54-hole tournament, the action gets underway with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Monday morning. Thirty-six holes will be contested on that first day with a final-round 18 to be played on Tuesday. The Jeremy is a par-71 course with a yardage of 7,130 yards.

Live scoring is available through Golfstat. Spectators are welcome to attend and admission is free.

As opposed to the 'five count four' format used by first three tournaments UVU competed in this season, the Utah Invitational will utilize a `six count five.' This means that each team will consist of six golfers with the top five scores counting toward the team total.

"This is our first time playing the 'six count five' format and I think it will show us how deep our team truly is," said UVU head coach Chris Curran. "But I also think the course sets up well for our guys. We have played this course a few more times than most of the teams in the field and we feel like that's an advantage. With the amount of elevation change at The Jeremy, we know we must be accurate off the tee."

All eight Wolverine golfers will be in action at the Invitational with the six-man team comprised of Michael Dart, Corey Eccles, Brayden Eriksen, Clark Fredrickson, Preston Richards, and Stratton Schulz. Noah Cook and JT Timmons will compete as individuals.

"We'll have a very veteran team this week with a senior, four juniors, and a sophomore," added Curran. "I hope that this group's tournament experience will pay off for us."

Entering Monday, Eriksen leads the Wolverines in scoring average at 71.11 -- average of 0.11 vs. par. He has two top-five finishes to his name already this season, coming in second at the Battle in the Tetons and tying for the fifth at BSU Dash Thomas Memorial just two weeks ago. Richards' 72.56 scoring average is second on the squad followed by Eccles' 73.11.

Coming off an 11th place finish at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate in Pullman, Wash., the Wolverines tied for 6th at Boise's Dash Thomas Memorial. UVU's highest finish this season came in its first tournament -- a second-place finish at the Tetons.

Nine teams comprise the field at the Invitational as Utah Valley joins host Utah, Northern Colorado, Southern Utah, UTEP, Utah State, and Westminster. Fellow-WAC member Bakersfield will also be competing this week.

Following this week's action, the Wolverines have just one more tournament in October before breaking for the winter months. The Bill Cullum Invitational runs Oct. 21-22 in Simi Valley, Calif.
