OREM, Utah - The Utah Valley State golf team will try to take the momentum it gained last week into this week as the Wolverines compete in the Bill Ross Intercollegiate Championship on Monday and Tuesday in Kansas City, Missouri.
Last Week's Action:
Nic van Vuuren shot a seven under 65 in the final round of the Ron Moore Invitational and jumped from 13th to 3rd in the individual standings. The Wolverines jumped from 15th to 7th in the team standings last Tuesday at Riverdale Dunes Golf Course.
After the first round the Wolverines dropped from 13th to 15th, good for next to last, but then UVSC came alive and passed eight teams over the final round.
All five Wolverine golfers improved their scores, and four of the five improved in the individual standings over the stretch of the tournament. Van Vuuren improved the most in scoring and Milo Lines gained the most ground in the individual standings.
After shooting even rounds of 72 in his first two rounds, van Vuuren saved the best for last with a career best 65 over the final 18. He was tied for 13th overall after the first round, and improved by seven shots over the final round, earning a 3rd place finish. His 65 ended up being the low round of the day and the low round of the tournament.
Lines was tied for 76th overall, after shooting a seven over 79 in his first round. Over the next two rounds, Lines gained five shots, and moved up 58 spots in the individual standings. He shot one over 73 in his second round, and notched a six under 66 in his final round, to finish 18th overall at two over.
The Wolverines will travel to Boise, Idaho to compete at the Bronco Roundup on October 11-12. The tournament will be played at Falcon Crest Golf Club.
