BOISE, Idaho - The Utah Valley State golfers improved 15 strokes from the first round to the second round, and currently sit at fifth place in the Bronco Roundup on Monday at Boise Ranch Golf Club.
The tournament format was designed to play 36 holes on Monday, and will finishwith a final round of 18 holes on Tuesday.
UVSC shot a team total 291, 7-over in the opening 18 holes, and then came backstrong and shot a 276, 8-under during the second 18. The Wolverines are 1-under,15 strokes back of Washington State.
-In the first round nobody played bad, they just didn't do anything special,-said golf coach Tommy Johnson. -In the second round Cody Powers' shot a 7-under,64 and sparked us.-
Powers (70-64) shot 134 on the day, recording a career tournament best in hissecond round. He is currently 8-under, and in second place, just two shots behind the leader in the indivdual tournament standings.
Colin Tucker (73-70) shot a 143, 1-over. Milo Lines (73-72) and Nic van Vuuren (75-70) both shot first day totals of 145 and sit at 3-over. Ryan Sausedo (75-80) finished the day with a 155, 13-over.
-This tournament is definitely a stronger field than last week,- said Johnson. -Nine out of the ten teams are respectable. If we finish in the top two or three in this tournament, we've played pretty good.-
Johnson was pleased with the way his team came back in the second round and is positive going into the final round.
-Watch out. These guys have been fire balls in the final round this season. They want it bad,- said Johnson. -I'm looking for some low scores tomorrow.-
