LARAMIE, Wyo. - The Utah Valley wresting team fell to No. 12 Wyoming Saturday night at the UniWyo Sports Complex in Laramie, Wyo., 36-6.
With the Wolverines trailing 6-0 entering the second match, Christensen wrestled well against UW's Kasey Garnhart. Christensen picked up the first point of the match on an early escape in the second period, the two then held each other scoreless until the final period. In the third frame, Garnhart then tied the score on an escape of his own but Christensen followed it up with a takedown and riding time to pull out a 4-1 decision win.
After a Wyoming win at 133-pounds, UVU's Garner then countered with another Wolverine victory. Garner took on the Cowboys' Mike Hamel and Hamel got on the board first with an early takedown. Garner then fought back in the second period with an escape and takedown to pull ahead 3-2. The UVU redshirt sophomore then held on to the victory in the third with another takedown and stall point to defeat Hamel 6-2. Garner's win pulled the Wolverines back within striking distance down just 12-6 at the time.
