GREELEY, Colo. - Utah Valley University 125-pounder Colby Christensen led the way for the Wolverines at the Old Chicago Open on Saturday as he won his weight bracket. In all, eleven Wolverine wrestlers placed at the tournament hosted by Northern Colorado.
Christensen won his title by going an impressive 5-0 on the day. He finished with two major decisions, a technical fall and two decisions. His semifinal victory came in a hard fought 1-0 decision over teammate Jade Rauser, who ended up placing third at the open while wrestling unattached. Rauser went 5-1 on the day and four of his wins came by fall. Also at 125-pounds, UVU's Jarod Maynes came in fifth with a 5-2 clip.
UVU 157-pounder Napoleon Aniciete and 165-pounder Ethan Smith both had great outings as they each placed second at the tournament. Smith ended his day with a 4-1 clip, while Aniciete finished 3-1. Two of Smith's wins came by technical fall and one came via major decision.
Also placing at the open for UVU were 141-pounders Avery Garner (third) and Sam Mecham (fourth) and 133-pounder Derek Malan (fifth). Unattached wrestlers that also placed were 197-pounder Adam Fager (third), heavyweight Dustin Dennison (third) and 157-pounder Andrew Orr (sixth). Garner went 3-1 on the day, Mecham 3-2, Malan 5-2, Orr 4-3, while Fager and Dennison each finished 5-1.

The Wolverines will have Thanksgiving week off and will be back on the mat Dec 2-3, when they will head to Las Vegas, Nev., to compete at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
