COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa -- Utah Valley University wrestler Benjamin Kjar (Wolverine Wrestling Club) placed fourth in the 55 kg./121 lbs. freestyle division at the World Team Trials in Council Bluffs, Iowa this past Sunday. His fourth place finish ranks him fourth at 55 kilograms on the US National Freestyle Team.

Kjar, a UVU wrestling standout, entered the tournament as the four-seed and took on the five seed Danny Felix, the former Arizona State Sun Devil and current West Virginia assistant coach. Kjar won the first period 1-0 but then fell in two very close bouts 0-1 and 0-1 to drop the first match. After a bye Kjar then defeated Wyoming's Michael Martinez in convincing fashion 1-0 and 3-2.

In the third-place bout Kjar took on Oklahoma State's Obe Blanc. Blanc was able to defeat Kjar as he beat him 3-0 and 4-0. Kjar who entered the trials as the four-seed ended up placing fourth.

"It was a great tournament for Ben," UVU head wrestling coach Greg Williamns said. "This will really give him the chance to get more recognition and it will also be a tremendous opportunity for him to work with the national team."
