OREM, Utah - The Utah Valley University wrestling team will stay on the road this weekend when they head to Greeley, Colo., to participate in Saturday's Old Chicago Open.
Western Wrestling Conference foe Northern Colorado is hosting the event at the Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion and action will begin at 9 a.m. Real-time results from the open can be found by visiting TrackWrestling.com.
Last weekend UVU split up its squad and sent its dual starters to the Wrestle for a Cure Duals, while the rest of its team competed at Wyoming's Cowboy Open. At Wrestle for a Cure, UVU went 2-2 and posted victories over Buffalo -- a team that was receiving votes for the NWCA/USA Today Top-25 -- and Shippensburg. The Wolverines' two losses came by the hands of No. 8 Illinois and No. 13 Ohio State.
UVU 197-pounder Brian Chamberlain had the best performance as he picked up three wins on the day. Josh Wilson (149 pounds), Ethan Smith (165) and Monte Schmalhaus (174) also fared well as they each picked up two wins apiece.
At the Cowboy Open, heavyweight Dustin Dennison -- who was competing unattached at the meet -- led the way by winning the amateur bracket. Three other Wolverines placed fourth at the tournament as 141-pounder Sam Mecham and 197-pounder Adam Fager (unattached) both finished fourth in the elite tournament and heavyweight Zac Jensen came in fourth in the amateur one.
UVU will have next week off and will next take to the mat on Dec. 2 & 3, when they will travel to Las Vegas to take part at the annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
