Reno, Nevada - The Utah Valley State wrestling team competed well in the Reno Tournament of Champions on Sunday. Several wrestlers won at least two matches and Justin Rawle advanced to the quarterfinals of the 141-weight class before losing to a wrestler from Cal-State Fullerton.

Rawle beat Chris Hayworth of Stanford and Chris Freije of Arizona State.

"I was very pleased with Justin Rawle," Utah Valley State coach Cody Sanderson said. "He was sick coming into the tournament and he showed alot of guts all the way through."

Wayne Watts won two matches in the 165-weight class. He defeated his teammate Mark Blain and Chris Fiest of Portland State. Ivan Bigney also won two matches at the 184-weight class.

"The guys wrestled pretty good today," Sanderson said. "This was just what we needed going into the middle part of our season. This is a confidence booster. I think they see how close they are"

The Wolverine wrestling team is back in action on Jan. 2 at the Missouri Duals.
