Women's Basketball Drops Exhibition

OREM, Utah - The Utah Valley women's basketball team dropped its lone exhibition game of the 2008-09 season, 82-53, to Fort Lewis on Thursday in The McKay Center.

Robyn Fairbanks led two Wolverines with 15 points while Julie McMurray chipped in 12 points, nine rebounds, six assists and five steals. Kayla Burningham finished with nine points and five rebounds for Utah Valley.

UVU shot just 35.1 percent from the field compared to 52.7 percent from Skyhawks, who also hit 10-of-18 (55.6 percent) from the three point line. Fort Lewis also enjoyed a lopsided 40-27 edge in rebounds.

Katie Mackey had 24 points to lead Fort Lewis and Alison Rosel finished with a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Both players were 9-for-11 from the field. Audrey George had 12 points, six rebounds and six assists while Erin Kerr had a game-high eight assists for the Skyhawks, who finished with 23 assists as a team.

After entering the half down by 10 points, the Wolverines found themselves down 17, 57-40, with 11:05 remaining before at quick seven-run spurt got UVU within 10.

Fort Lewis answered that with 13 straight points, part of a 25-6 run to end the game.

Utah Valley will open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 14 at 4:30 p.m. against Montana State in The McKay Center.
