Late Run Pushes Wolverines Past Gonzaga 94-73

OREM, Utah - Five players scored in double figures as Utah Valley used a big second half to defeat Gonzaga 94-73 on Monday afternoon in The McKay Center. The Wolverines (12-3) outscored Gonzaga (8-6) 51-34 in the second hald and have now won 11 straight at home dating back to last season as they prepare to host Nevada on Wednesday afternoon at 3:05pm. Robyn Fairbanks led the way for UV with 29 points and 14 rebounds while Sandy Marvin added 23 on 7-for-10 shooting. Rebekah Peterson had a season high 14 points, Julie McMurray chipped in 12 and Jordyn Bowen had a career high 11 points to round out the double figure scorers. Peterson, McMurray and Bowen each had eight rebounds in the game, with Bowen setting a career high on the glass as the Wolverines outrebounded the Bulldogs 50-28. Both teams took care of the basketball as UV had 24 assists compared to 11 turnovers and GU had 20 assists and nine turnovers. Hollie Beaman (Utah Valley) Courtney Vandersloot (Gonzaga) shared game-high honors with seven assists each. Vivian Frieson led the Bulldogs with 20 points and eight rebounds and Jami Bjorklund had 16 for GU, who was without its leading scorer and rebounder, Heather Bowman, for the fifth straight game. The game was tight nearly the entire way, with 10 ties and 16 lead changes, before Utah Valley used a 9-1 run to take a 67-59 advantage before later using a 14-0 run to run and eight point advantage into a 90-68 lead with 1:18 remaining. With the win the Wolverines improve to 2-1 all-time against Gonzaga and 4-3 all-time against West Coast Conference schools.
