PROVO, Utah -- The Utah County Commissioner's Office has proclaimed Tuesday, January 7, 2014 to be Utah Valley University Women's Basketball Team Day.

The proclamation was drafted to honor UVU's stellar academic achievement following the 2012-13 season when it was ranked first in the country on the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association Academic Top 25. It was the second time in the last four years that the Wolverines had claimed the nation's top team GPA, this time accomplishing the feat with a cumulative team GPA of 3.639.

"It was a great recognition today," said 19-year head coach Cathy Nixon. "It really was special to have our girls be in that setting and for people to understand and recognize the commitment they've made in the classroom. They have excelled as Division I student-athletes and it's a privilege for us to represent Utah County and Utah Valley University on this day."

UVU has appeared in the WBCA Academic Top 25 for seven consecutive seasons and has secured a spot in the top-10 four times.

Members of the current UVU women's basketball team and coaching staff were on hand at the County Commissioner's Office on Tuesday morning to receive the proclamation, signed by County Commissioners Gary Anderson, Larry Ellertson, and Doug Witney.
