OREM, Utah -- Its one and only tune-up in the preseason, the Utah Valley University women's basketball team faces off with Adams State this Friday at 7 p.m. in the PE Building.

Live stats, provided by StatBroadcast, are available free of charge as is the game's live, streaming audio through WolverineGreen.com.

UVU head coach Cathy Nixon, last season's Great West Conference Coach of the Year, is set to begin her 19th season at the helm of Wolverine women's basketball and first as a member of the Western Athletic Conference. Utah Valley returns just four letterwinners and two starters from last season's GWC title-winning squad that posted a 15-15 overall record.

Headlining those returners are guards Tina Doughty and Whitney Jenkins. A second-team preseason All-WAC selection by the media, Doughty's 10.4 points per game in 2012-13 lead the Wolverine returners. Jenkins, a senior, posted 6.4 ppg last year and led UVU in steals for the second consecutive season.

Eight newcomers join the fold this year, including transfers Katie Kuklok and Mika Pinner as well as redshirt freshmen Georgia Agnew and Karlee Kartchner.

"It's a long preseason when you're only playing against each other and I think the girls are excited to be playing against someone else," said Nixon. "I'm looking forward to seeing our team out there. We're young and a little untested as a group so it will be interesting to see how we respond in a game setting."

A member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in NCAA Division II, Adams State went 9-17 last season and finished 10th in the 14-team league. The Grizzlies are beginning a new era under first-year head coach Rebecca Alvidrez. An ASU alum, Alvidrez returns to Alamosa, Colo., following six seasons as the associate head coach at Alaska Anchorage.
