OREM, Utah - The Utah Valley University women's basketball team opens the 2008-09 season at home on Friday against Montana State at 4:30 p.m. in The McKay Center. The Wolverines will turn right around a host Mesa State the following afternoon at 3 p.m. Both games can be heard live by going to WolverineGreen.com.

Utah Valley, who finished 16-12 in 07-08, returns all five starters from last year's team that set a school record for wins in a season. 12 of the 16 wins came inside The McKay Center, where the Wolverines were a perfect 12-0 in 07-08 and have won 15 straight overall at home.

UVU dropped its only preseason contest, 82-53, to Fort Lewis, last week. In that game Robyn Fairbanks led the Wolverines with 15 points and Julie McMurray added 12.

Montana State finished 18-13 last year, including a 79-69 win over the Wolverines in Bozeman, Montana on Dec. 5, UVU's first loss of the season.

The Bobcats return three starters from a year ago including former Mountain View High School (Orem) star Nubia Garcia. MSU lost its top two scorers from last year's team that finished 11-5 and in third place in the Big Sky Conference.

Mesa State finished 14-14 in 2007-08 including a 94-58 loss to Utah Valley early on in the season. The Bobcats, one of two non-Division I schools on the Wolverines' schedule, return one starter from last season. MSC is in the same conference (Rocky Mtn. Athletic Conf.) as last week's exhibition opponent, Fort Lewis.
