Women's Basketball Plays First Road Game at Gonzaga

OREM, Utah - Utah Valley will hit the road for the first time this season when the Wolverines (1-1) travel to Spokane, Wash. to face Gonzaga on Wednesday at 7 p.m. MT. The game can be heard live by going to WolverineGreen.com.

UVU is 1-1 after splitting two games over the weekend. The Wolverines fell 94-71 to Montana State despite big games from Robyn Fairbanks and Julie McMurray. Fairbanks had 31 points and 13 rebounds and McMurray scored 25 but the Bobcats spoiled the home opener and ended UVU's 15-game home winning streak.

A day later, Utah Valley rebounded with a blowout win over Mesa State, 83-39. Five different players reached double figures in the win led by 22 from Fairbanks.

Lauren Smith finished with 10 points and a career-high 12 rebounds for her first career double-double. McMurray also had a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards.

The Bulldogs are 2-0 after knocking off Pac-10 Washington on Sunday in Seattle. Courtney Vandersloot and Tiffanie Shives combined for 39 points as Gonzaga beat the Huskies 64-59 while forcing 30 Washington turnovers.

Junior Heather Bowman was one of 30 players named to the pre-season Women's Wooden Award list for the top player in college basketball.

Spokane is home to the largest defeat in school history for Utah Valley. In a game that opened the McCarthey Athletic Center, Gonzaga outscored the Wolverines 54-17 in the second half on its way to a 46-point win, 87-41.

Utah Valley will continue its tough stretch when they travel to The Pit in New Mexico to take on the Mountain West Lobos on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m.
