Slow Start Dooms Wolverine Women Monday Afternoon
Utah Valley shot just 5-of-34 from the field in the first half against South Dakota and ended up falling 63-54 Monday afternoon at the UCCU Center. The Wolverines (5-5) staged a late comeback and pulled within six in the final moments but the slow start was too much to overcome as they came up short.

UVU is 1-5 and has dropped its last four games after going winless during its three-game Northern California road trip and falling at home to Long Beach State last Friday.

While in California, UVU fell 81-72 to San Jose State, 80-67 to Santa Clara, and 74-62 to Sacramento State.

In their most recent game against the 49ers, the Wolverines held a 19-point lead at halftime but couldn't hold off a hot-shooting Long Beach State team in the second half as UVU fell 77-69. The game was a tale of two halves as the Wolverines shot 60 percent (18-30)from the field in the first half but just 22 percent (6-27) in the second one.

Despite the loss, UVU senior Sammie Jensen recorded her nation-leading sixth double-double in as many games this year with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Sophomore Taylor Huber also matched a career-high 17 points off the bench in the contest as well.

Jensen, who was recently selected to repeat as the Great West Conference's Player of the Year, leads the Wolverines on the season with a double-double average of 19 points and 14.3 boards per game. Her 14.3 rpg average ranks her third nationally. Fellow UVU senior Kaycee Mansfield is second on the team in scoring and rebounding with an average of 10.3 ppg and 6.0 rpg.

About Tulsa
The University of Tulsa is 0-5 on the year and is coming off of two losses to Illinois and Loyola Marymount at the Junkanoo Jam in the Bahamas over Thanksgiving weekend. The Golden Hurricane were recently picked to finish sixth in the Conference USA this season and went 13-15 overall last year and 8-8 in conference play (sixth place).

TU is led by preseason all-conference selection Taleya Mayberry and her 21.6 point per game average. Also averaging double figures in scoring for the Golden Hurricane is Tiffani Couisnard. Couisnard is averaging 10.8 points and a team-high 9.6 rebounds.

Thursday's game will be the second all-time meeting between UVU and TU. The Wolverines hold a 1-0 series advantage after beating Tulsa 78-62 last year in Orem. The game will also mark just UVU's second all-time contest against a team from the Conference USA.

About South Dakota
The Coyotes are 2-4 so far this season and will host Idaho State on Thursday. USD was picked to finish sixth in the Summit League Preseason Poll after going 23-8 overall last year and 12-6 in conference play (third place).

Nicole Seekamp and Polly Harrington lead USD this year with their nearly identical 13.7 and 13.3 point per game respective averages. Harrington also leads the Coyotes in rebounding with an average of 6.7 per contest.

Saturday will be UVU's sixth all-time meeting against its former Great West Conference foe South Dakota. The Coyotes hold a perfect 5-0 record against the Wolverines, which includes a 2-0 mark at the DakotaDome.

UVU will return home to face two in-state rivals next week. The Wolverines will welcome Weber State to the UCCU Center on Dec. 4 and Southern Utah on Dec. 6 before heading to Pocatello, Idaho to face Idaho State on Dec. 8.
