NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Utah Valley University's Sammie Jensen has been named Great West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week after an outstanding performance last week. The award was announced Thursday by the league office.

Jensen, a senior from Stansbury Park, Utah, set a new single-game rebounding record at UVU by grabbing 22 boards in a win over Carroll College on Dec. 19. The forward also recorded her ninth double-double of the season in that game, as she led the Wolverines with 14 points and the 22 rebounds. She then finished just one point shy of a double-double at No. 25 Colorado last Saturday with nine points and 10 boards. Jensen leads the GWC in scoring with 17.7 points per game and rebounding (12.7).

The weekly conference honor is Jensen's fourth of the season and ninth of her career.

Others nominated were Houston Baptist's Shanice Steenholdt and Texas-Pan American's Cassandra Moody.

UVU will return to the court on Saturday to take on in-state rival Southern Utah in Cedar City.
