Wolverines in 23rd at Cowgirl Classic

CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Utah Valley Unversity's Lauren Ballenger recorded a first-round 79 as is tied for 76th after the first round of the Cowgirl Invitational hosted by the University of Wyoming at the par-72, 6,184-yard Ocotillo Golf Resort Monday. Teammate Lynn-Marie Nagel is one shot behind Ballenger and is tied for 80th entering Tuesday's second round. Brooke Bliss finished with an 81 and is tied for 96th, while Celeste Gish and Jordyn Dougal carded 86s and are tied for 119th. Iowa's Kristi Cardwell and Colorado State's Brianna Espinoza recorded first-round 68s and are tied for first, while Wichita State's Daniela Rugeles is one shot back. Iowa (289) leads the tournament, while Colorado State (292) is second and Sacramento State (294) is third. Utah Valley is in 23rd. The third and final round will be played Wednesday.
