OREM, Utah -- In their final meets before their respective conference tournaments, the Utah Valley University men's an women's golf teams will head west for their final meets of the regular season.
The men will tee it up Monday morning at 7 a.m. at the Braveheart Classic hosted UC Riverside in Beaumont, Calif., while the women tee it up Monday morning 7:30 a.m. at the Cowgirl Invitational hosted by the University of Wyoming in Chandler, Ariz.
Utah Valley's Mason Casper, who is ranked 66th in the nation in scoring average, leads the Wolverines with a 71.74 average, followed by Joey Olson (73.87) and Stratton Schulz (74.96).
So far this season, Casper has five top-10 finishes, including a win at the Battle of the Tetons last September. As a team, the Wolverines won the Battle of the Tetons at +2.
Along with UVU and host UC Riverside, Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, Sacramento State, San Francisco, La Verne, Redlands, Cal Lutheran and Alabama State are set to compete in the two-day tournament a at the par-72, 7,003-yard Oak Valley Golf Club.
Freshman Lynn-Marie Nagel leads the UVU women's golf team in scoring at 78.37, followed by Jordyn Dougal (81.05) and Celeste Gish (81.42.).
Nagel has one top-10 finish -- tie for ninth at the Red Rocks Invitational in early March.
Along with UVU and host Wyoming, Boise State, Colorado State, Creighton, Eastern Washington, Iowa, Montana, Montana State, Nevada, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, Portland State, Sacramento State, Santa Clara, Seattle, South Dakota State, Southern Utah, UC Riverside, UTEP, Weber State, Wichita State and Xavier will compete in the three-day event held at the par-72, 6,184-yard Ocotillo Golf Resort.
Following the Braveheart Classic, the men's team will compete in the America Sky Conference championships in Stonington, Conn. April 29-May 1, while the UVU women will host the Great West Conference Championships at the Alpine Country Club on April 23-25.
