Adams Scores Two Goals in Loss
Sept. 9, 2007 ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Despite two early goals from Shantae Adams, Utah Valley dropped a 3-2 match to Long Island after surrendering three unanswered goals. "It's encouraging that when we play as a team we are very good," head coach Brent Anderson said. "Unfortunately, we started playing as individuals." Samantha Post scored three goals for Long Island to lift the Blackbirds past the Wolverines. Utah Valley took an early 1-0 lead in the 16th minute on Adams' first goal. She freed herself and fired a shot from 28 feet that found the net. Just five minutes later, Adams added her second goal in the 21st minute on an assist from Katey Turner. "We played good soccer for the first 35 minutes," Anderson said. "We just need to put it together for an entire game." The Blackbirds cut the lead in half in the 38th minute after Post scored her first goal. Post received a cross from Lana Martinez and beat the keeper for the goal. Minutes later, Post tied the game in the 43rd minute on an assist from Neddie King. The match went into the break tied at 2-2 and remained that way until the 86th mintue, when Post struck again for the game-winner. Post beat a Wolverine defender and found the net. UV returns to action next weekend when they travel to Wyoming (Friday) and Northern Colorado (Sunday).
