POCATELLO, Idaho - Freshman Ashley Burdett scored her first career goal but for the second straight game Utah Valley came up a goal short as UC Davis scored a 2-1 win over the Wolverines at the Idaho State Classic on Sunday.
"UC Davis is a very good team and we hard time sustaining an attack and a hard time finding our forwards again," said head coach Brent Anderson. "We're going to work hard this week to get better and find some good combinations and get back on track."
Burdett's goal came in the 43rd minute with the Wolverines (4-2-1) already down two goals. After a Jenni Clough shot was saved by the Aggies' Sarah Peters, Burdett followed with her goal to get UVU on the board.
UC Davis (4-2-1) got goals from Marisa Boge (19th minute) and Rochelle VanBuskirk (28th minute) on a play where the goalkeeper, Peters, got an assist.
Like in Friday's 1-0 loss to Wyoming, the Wolverines struggled to find offensive firepower. UC Davis out-shot UVU 23-6 overall and 11-3 in shots on goal.
Mallory Schott had eight saves for Utah Valley while Peters finished with two.
The Wolverines will hit the road again this coming weekend with games at New Mexico (Friday) and at Northern Arizona (Sunday).
