Wolverines Blank Centenary 3-0
Sept. 23, 2006
Orem, UT- The Utah Valley State soccer team picked up a 3-0 win over Centenary College on Saturday. The win ups the Wolverines record to 4-5-1 while Centenary dropped to 3-8. "The girls did exactly what they needed to do to get the win," Utah Valley State Brent Anderson said. "We picked up our speed of play and I think it was hard for Centenary to keep up. It was nice for once to be on that side of it." The Wolverines out shot Centenary 20-6 and coach Anderson was able to play everybody on his bench. Utah Valley scored in the 10th minute when Rebecca Petersen scored off a corner kick taken from Addie Hair. The Wolverines led 1-0 at halftime and out shot Centenary 9-0. Utah Valley's Chelsea Stone scored three minutes into the second half off an assist from Brittany Call to up the lead to 2-0. Anderson said he was pleased with Stone's goal because of how well she came forward in the offensive attack even though her position is a defensive stopper. The final goal came in the 89th minute when Megan Berrett connected on a penalty kick. "I tried to get everybody into the game today," Anderson said. "It is vital for us to get that experience." Anderson hopes scoring three goals in the win helps spark the Wolverines with an extra boost of confidence over the remainder of the season. "Once you start scoring it is easier to score and it give you confidence," Anderson said. The Wolverines continue their home stand on Thursday at 4 p.m. when they play host to Eastern Washington.
