UV falls to In-State Foe Utah
Oct. 3, 2007
OREM, Utah - In Utah's first trip down south to Wolverine Field, the Utes handed Utah Valley a 6-0 defeat. The match marked the third all-time meeting between the two schools. With the victory the Utes now lead the all-time series 3-0. "Utah is a quality program," UV head coach Brent Anderson said. "They had some very good plays that produced goals. Hopefully, we can clean some things up and rebound against Dixie this weekend." UV's Jenni Clough and Andi Bagdan led the way for the Wolverines with four shots apiece but each time came away empty handed. Wolverine midfielder Taryn Smith had a good shot off a rebound right in the box but booted it directly into the Utes goalkeeper's arms. The University of Utah seemed to take advantage of their opportunities early and often as they were on the offense for most of the first half. The Utes scored their first goal 12 minutes in as Lauren Hair found herself Johnny-on-the-spot as she netted the far left corner of the goal from the right side. Utah continued on the attack in the first half as Erin Dalley dribbled the ball ahead of the Wolverine defense finding herself ahead of Wolverine goalkeeper Mallory Schott to take a 2-nil advantage into the half. UV's best shot of the match came midway through the first half as Shantae Adams received a great feed in the center of the box for a header that clanked off the cross-bar, just missing a goal. Adams' header on the rebound fell into the Utes' keepers arms.
The Utes weren't done as Lauren Hair hit her second goal of the match in the 55th minute of action as she connected 15 yards out on the right side on a great feed from her running mate Chelsea Card. The Wolverines had some good looks toward the goal but came away empty handed as the three Utah goalkeepers were unkind to UV making some outstanding stops. Utah added three more goals late in the match to take the 6-nil victory. They were scored respectively in order by Paola Marsenaro, Katy Reineke, and Chelsea Card. With the win the Utes improve to 7-2-2 on the season and with the loss the Wolverines fall to 2-7-1 overall but remain (2-1, United Soccer Conference). Up next the Wolverines will try to rebound from the loss but it will be tough as the next four games will be played on the road. Friday, Oct. 5 at Dixie State will be their next test, followed with a trip to Las Vegas on Sunday, Oct. 7 at UNLV. |
