Wolverines and T-Birds Play to 3-3 Draw
Oct. 10, 2011
OREM, Utah - Utah Valley and Southern Utah played to a 3-3 draw on Monday at Clyde Field in the Wolverines' first overtime game of the season and first tie since Oct. 1, 2010. UVU (6-6-1) led 2-0 and 3-2 before an 87th-minute goal by SUU (2-7-3) forced overtime. "One of the things we've struggled with is allowing goals at inopportune times," said head coach Brent Anderson. "At times we had good control and created some opportunities but you can't give up leads like that. We'll be in more close games in conference play and need to be able to finish." Regan Clifford scored twice for the Wolverines including in the game's first minute - just 50 seconds in - when she pushed a loose ball past the T-Bird keeper into the lower right corner. Jaime Lyons then gave UVU a 2-0 lead in the 31st minute on a penalty kick. Southern Utah got a goal back in the 33rd minute by Elyse Osborne on a high shot that UVU keeper Lauren Sack got her fingers on but still trickled in. Riley Bassett tied it for the T-Birds in the second half - in the 60th minute - on a header following a direct kick into the box by Morgan Bridge. Clifford scored her second goal on a shot into the upper net with her left foot in the 77th minute. Following a corner kick, Alexa Pulley found Clifford for the go-ahead goal, which looked like it may be the game-winner until Stacey Brinkman's corner kick found the back of the net with less than four minutes left.
The Wolverines continue a busy week with a pair of Great West Conference games. Howard comes to town on Thursday before UVU hosts Houston Baptist on Saturday. Both matches kick off at 7 p.m. |
