SDSU Too Much For UV
Oct. 14, 2007
BROOKINGS, S.D. - After an impressive showing on Friday that resulted in a tough-luck loss to North Dakota State, Utah Valley fell 7-1 on Sunday to South Dakota State. "We are looking for some consistency," UV head coach Brent Anderson said. "We came out against North Dakota State and played a very good game on Friday. But today we came out against a similar South Dakota State team today and struggled." The Wolverines were only out-shot 20 to 17. But, the Jacks found the net a higher percentage than did UV. The Wolverines' Chelsey Ellison found the net in the 85th minute for her second goal of the season in the loss. SDSU jumped out to an early lead as the Jacks' Kellyn Farrell found the net twice in 90 seconds to give her team an early 2-0 advantage. Farrell scored in the 16th and 18th minutes to help her team get off to a quick start. SDSU added a third goal in the 38th minute before getting off to another quick start in the second half, scoring three goals in the first 12 minutes of the stanza to go ahead 6-0. After a goal in the 72nd minute to widen its lead, UV's Ellison broke the shutout when she got free at the 84:08 mark and found the net on an unassisted goal. With its longest road streak of the season behind it, Utah Valley will return home next weekend to take on United Soccer Conference foes, NJIT (Friday) and Delaware State (Saturday) at Wolverine field. Both games will kick off at 3 p.m.
