FARMVILLE, Virginia - The Utah Valley women's soccer 2008 season, it's most successful ever at the NCAA level, ended with a tough 1-0 loss at Longwood in the United Soccer Conference Championship game on Monday night.

"I'm very proud of this team for the season they've had and what they've accomplished," said head coach Brent Anderson. "It is disappointing for it to end like this but the girls should be very proud of themselves. I'm grateful for the five seniors; for their leadership, hardwork and their commitment to this program and the traditions we're trying to build. They have helped lay a foundation for our future success and I'm very grateful for that."

The Wolverines fell despite having the edge in nearly every statistical category. Utah Valley out-shot the Lancers (10-7-2) 15-to-4 including a 9-1 edge in shots on goal. Most importantly for Longwood though its one shot, off the foot of Alex Myers in the 12th minute, found the goal.

Jenni Clough, Mallory Schott, Ashley Skeen, Kelley Thompson and Shantae Adams-Yeats all saw their careers at Utah Valley come to a close on Monday. Clough's storied career ends with the forward as the all-time school record holder in several categories including goals (26) and points (71).

All of the seniors except Thompson, who was serving an LDS mission, were on the 2007 United Soccer Conference championship team that defeated this same Longwood squad, 3-2, last November in Orem. It will presumably be the last USC game that UVU will play in as it moves into Great West Conference play next fall.

Despite the loss in the final, the 2008 Wolverines will go down as the winningest team in the school's six-year NCAA history. The 11 wins surpassed the school record by two and the team's 4-0 start was not only the best in school history but it also was part of the Wolverines' longest winning streak of seven dating back to the 2007 season. Utah Valley was also a perfect 5-0 in the conference regular season, outscoring its opponents 15-to-1.
