OREM, Utah -- Former Utah Valley University goalkeeper Lauren Sack is taking her career to France to play semi-professionally in the city of Gaillard for the ETG Ambilly Feminin Football Club. Gaillard is in the Rhone-Alpes region in southeastern France and near Geneva, Switzerland.
Sack was a four-year starter for the Wolverines and was a three-time conference Defensive Player of the Year including earning the WAC's defensive honor last fall as a senior.
"I knew I wasn't ready to be done playing and it has always been a dream in the back of my mind to go play overseas somewhere," Sack said. "It still hasn't really hit me yet that I'm moving to another country with a different language but I'm up for the challenge and hope I can make everyone proud."
"This is a wonderful opportunity for Lauren and we know she'll represent herself and the program well," said UVU head coach Brent Anderson. "She was such a big part of our program while she was here and it's great to see her get this chance to keep playing."
Also while at UVU, Sack was twice named the Great West Conference's Defensive Player of the Year and, after redshirting her first season, was all-conference in all four of her seasons on the field. She posted 33 career wins in goal, a UVU school record.
"Playing for Brent is the best thing that could have ever happened to me," she said. "He didn't just prepare me to play but he prepared me for life. This is definitely going to be a crazy adventure but I have learned a lot about myself over the last five years and I'm stoked to push the limits again. Knowing that I have the support of my team and coaches will keep me motived to keep pushing and to be the best person and player that I can be."
Sack heads to France on Aug. 16 to prepare for the start of the season, which begins Sept. 1.
