OREM, Utah - After spending the last two weeks on the road, Utah Valley returns home to take on Northern Arizona Friday afternoon at Wolverine Field. "It is great to be playing at home after two weeks on the road," head coach Brent Anderson said. "We are going against a great team in Northern Arizona. They have been playing strong defense so this game wil be a good test for our offense. The Wolverines (0-4-1) were banged up physically the past two weeks, falling in each of the four matches. Meanwhile, the Lumberjacks are on the road for the first time this season after starting the season with six consecutive home matches. The two teams will be facing off for the third time in the series history. The last time they met was in 2005, when Northern Arizona handed UV a 4-0 defeat on a neutral field. In 2004, the Wolverines and Lumberjacks played to a 0-0 draw in Scottsdale, Ariz. Northern Arizona is making its first trip to play UV in Orem. The Lumberjacks are the fourth team from the Big Sky Conference that the Wolverines have faced this year (Idaho State and Weber State were exhibition matches). UV will play a fifth opponent when they take on Eastern Washington in the Wolverines final game of the regular season. After finishing its home match against Northern Arizona this weekend, UV will head back out on the road as the Wolverines will travel to the East Coast to start their United Soccer Conference season with games at Howard, Longwood and South Carolina State. Utah Valley will play at Howard (in Washington D.C.), at Longwood (Farmville, Va.) and will play South Carolina State on a neutral field on Longwood's campus. The Wolverines will then return home to take on Mountain West Conference power, Utah.
"We've been working on some of our weaknesses and reinforcing our strengths in practice," Anderson said. "I beleive the girls are in a good state of mind and are ready to play tomorrow." |
