OREM, Utah - Riding the high of its first perfect week of the season, Utah Valley heads back out on the road as the Wolverines take the 200-mile trip south to take on Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah. "We have been training hard this week," UV head coach Brent Anderson said. "I think the girls will be well prepared. Since we started the season against SUU, it will be an interesting matchup to see how we've improved." UV is coming off a record-setting performance that saw the Wolverines fire a school-record 49 shots on their way to a 5-1 victory over Delaware State. On the weekend, UV outscored its opponents 10-1 while posting the two victories and clinching the No. 2 seed in the upcoming USC Tournamnent. This Saturday's match between the Wolverines and Thunderbirds marks the second time the two teams have faced off this year. Both UV and SUU started its respective seasons against each other in a Aug. 31 1-1 draw. Jenni Clough scored her first goal of the season for the Wolverines, tying the school record for career goals. The Thunderbirds were able to fight back, score a goal and force a draw. Previous to this season, Utah Valley had enjoyed three consecutive wins over Southern Utah. The Wolverines won each of their first two meetings by a 2-1 score before last year's come-from behind, overtime thriller that saw UV score in the final minutes of regulation to tie the game and score early in overtime to win it.
After its match with Southern Utah, Utah Valley will have another light week next week as the Wolverines have just one game slated, a Nov. 4 tilt at Eastern Washington. The Wolverines and Eagles will play on EWU's home field to wrap up the regular season for the Wolverines. |
