Oct. 28, 2012
OREM, Utah -- The Utah Valley University women's soccer team will look to close out a perfect Great West Conference season when it welcomes Delaware State to Clyde Field Monday night. The regular season finale will kick off under the lights at 7 p.m. UVU (6-11-1, 4-0-0 GWC) has already clinched its second consecutive GWC Regular Season title, sealing the crown when DSU (3-9-1, 2-2-0 GWC) fell to Houston Baptist 2-0 on Saturday. Still, the Wolverines, who are 25-3-1 all-time in the GWC, will look to go unblemished in its final GWC season with a win over the Hornets Monday night.

Senior forward Regan Benson still leads the Wolverines in goals (seven) and points (16). Sophomore Lexi Robison and juniors Natalie Baker and Haley Curtis are next with three scores each this season. Curtis also has three assists this season, tying her for the team lead with defenders Kelsey Cook and Lexi Dunn. Junior Lauren Sack holds a 4-6-0 record as goalkeeper for UVU, recording 68 saves and a 1.50 goals against average this season. Sack and the Wolverine defense have allowed just two goals in the last six games, including only one goal in conference play.
Delaware State currently sits in third place in the GWC standings, following its loss to Houston Baptist Saturday. The Hornets were the only team to defeat UVU last season, picking up a 2-1 win in Dover. "We realize that Delaware State was the only team to beat us in conference last season, so we're looking forward to the game," said UVU head soccer coach Brent Anderson. "The girls feel they have something prove and they'll be ready to play Monday night." Freshman forward Taylor Addison leads DSU with four goals this season, followed by a pair from fellow forward, sophomore Chelsea Boursiquot. Sophomore Katelyn Kosloski has seen the majority of time in goal for the Hornets, putting together a 2-8-1 record with 74 saves and a 1.90 goals against average. UVU holds a 7-1-0 advantage all-time against DSU. As regular season champions, the Wolverines hold the top seed at the GWC Tournament, which begins Nov. 2 in Orem. UVU will look to become the first women's soccer team in league history to win back-to-back tournament championships. |
