United Soccer Conference Tournament Begins Saturday
Oct. 30, 2008
OREM, Utah - The Utah Valley University women's soccer team begins its pursuit of a second consecutive United Soccer Conference tournament championship this weekend when the Wolverines face NJIT on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET in Farmville, Virginia. The winner of Saturday's contest will face the winner of the Longwood/Howard game on Monday at 5:30 p.m. ET for the championship. "The team has been working hard and is focused for the game against NJIT," said head coach Brent Anderson. "Last time we faced them, NJIT played well and we need to expect that again. The girls are ready to go and excited for the chance to play in the conference tournament and in that type of environment." Utah Valley (10-6-1, 5-0) has already set a new school record for wins in a season, setting the new mark in its final conference game, a 3-0 shutout of Longwood. The Wolverines completed the USC schedule with a perfect record, outscoring opponents 15-to-1 in the process. That lone goal against UVU came in a 2-1 win over NJIT in Newark, New Jersey on Oct. 8. Jennifer Lohner scored the game-winning goal in the 84th minute to give the Wolverines the thrilling win. UVU has won 10 straight conference games dating back to last season, including two wins in the 2007 conference tournament in Orem. This weekend will mark the school's last United Soccer matches as it begins Great West Conference play in 2009. The last conference loss came where this year's tournament will be played, at Longwood, in a 2-1 loss to the Lancers.
