NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- With two goals and two assists in Utah Valley University's 5-0 win over Delaware State Monday night, forward Regan Benson has been awarded Great West Conference Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the league office.
A senior from Mesa, Ariz., Benson had a career day against the Hornets, notching a career-high six points as she scored the first and final goals of the Wolverines' big win.
The performance helped lift UVU to a perfect 5-0-0 conference mark and the No. 1 seed heading into this weekend's league tournament.
Benson now leads the GWC in goals (9) and points (22) and is tied for third in assists (4).
Delaware State goalkeeper Katelyn Koslosky was recognized as Defensive Player of the Week after her 13-save performance against Utah Valley moved her into second place all-time in DSU history with 200 saves.
Also nominated this week were Delaware State's forward Candace Wyre, Houston Baptist's midfielder Molly Missimer and goalie Shelby Horn and Utah Valley's goalie Lauren Sack.
This is the fifth time a Wolverine has garnered Player of the Week Honors. Sack has collected Defensive honors twice this season (Oct. 2 and Oct. 23), Nicole Slater took the defensive award Oct. 9, and Lexi Robison and Lexi Dunn swept the first awards of the season on Aug. 28.
UVU will look to become the first team in GWC women's soccer history to win back-to-back tournament championships when it hosts the tournament this weekend.
