Wolverines Drop Final Two of Tournament

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - On the final day of the Troy Cox Invitational Utah Valley fell to Indiana State 8-0 and Oklahoma State 12-0. Lauren Augino went 2-for-2 for the Wolverines (2-8) in their first game, collecting two of the teams three hits. In the first game against Indiana State, UV ran into trouble in the top of the second inning. The Sycamores scored five in the inning after they loaded the bases on consecutive singles and a walk. After a bases-loaded walk forced in the first run ISU got a grand slam to move ahead 5-0. The Sycamores added three more runs in the third on a three-run homer to move ahead 8-0. In the second game of the twinbill, Oklahoma State scored eight runs in the first two innings to put the Wolverines in an early hole. Utah Valley had its chances in the second when the Wolverines had runners on second and third after Abby Bowcutt walked and Natalie Bartholomew added a hit. The Cowgirls got out of the inning with a strike out. After a scoreless OSU third inning, the Cowgirls got four more runs in the bottom of the fourth. UV was held off the board in the top of the fifth frame to end the game early. The Wolverines are next scheduled to play a double header against the College of Idaho on March 1 weather permitting.
