OREM, Utah - Tiffany Mills pitched a two-hitter in the first game and Amanda Robinson hit two home runs in the second game to help Utah Valley sweep a Pacific Coast Softball Conference doubleheader over Northern Colorado on Friday at Wolverine Field. The Wolverines (22-12-1, 3-3 PCSC) took game one, 2-1, and the game two, 7-5.

"I'm real happy with how we played," UVU head coach Todd Fairbourne said. "Mills threw a great game, we played solid defense all day long and in that last game you've got to give Robinson a lot of credit. Overall it was good team effort today."

In game one the Wolverines struck first as Amanda Perez started a two-out second inning rally with a single. Kylee Brinkerhoff then followed it up with a walk and Stephanie Likos delivered the RBI-hit with a single up the middle that Perez came around from second to score on.

UVU then pushed an insurance run across in the fifth inning to take a 2-0 advantage. Marie Williams started this rally with a bunt single, Robinson then walked and Jamie North came through with a run-scoring single into centerfield.

That was all the offense that Mills would need, as she was dominant from the circle. The UVU junior took a no-hitter into the fifth inning. UNC's (17-20, 2-4 PCSC) Mikayla Duffy then broke it up as she led off the fifth with a bloop-single that landed just over Wolverine second baseman Jessica Uresti's head. The Bears threatened in the frame as they got two runners on with just one out but Mills countered by retiring the next two batters to get out of the jam.

The second hit that Mills surrendered was a solo home run that Duffy hit off of her to leadoff the seventh inning. After allowing the homer, Mills bore down and retired three of the next four batters to finish off her complete game gem. Mills ended up allowing just the two hits, one run and struck out two to pick up her 11th victory of the year (11-8) and her 16th complete game. UNC's Kelci Cheney suffered the loss, as she went the distance and gave up just one earned run on seven hits to fall to 6-5.

In the opener Williams, North and Likos all recorded two hits apiece, while Duffy had both of Northern Colorado's hits.

In game two, Robinson gave UVU all of the runs it would need as she went 2-for-3 with two round-trippers and seven RBIs. The Wolverine slugger put Utah Valley on top early with a first inning three-run homer to the opposite field and she later gave the Wolverines the lead late with a fifth inning go-ahead grand slam to left.

Uresti and Williams both singled to get on base for Robinson in the first, and in the fifth Deianna Russell, Likos and pinch hitter Kelli Smart all reached base to set the table for Robinson's grand slam.

After Robinson's first homer, UNC countered with three runs, two of which were unearned, in the second inning to tie the game at 3-3. The Bears then pieced together another rally in the top of the fifth, as they managed to score two more runs thanks to two more Wolverine errors in the frame to pull ahead at 5-3. Robinson's grand slam in the last of the fifth then put UVU on top for good.

Megan Peay came on in relief for UVU and pitched the final 2 2/3 innings of one-hit ball to record her fifth victory of season to improve to 5-1. Cassie Herrera started the contest and went 4 1/3 and allowed five runs but just two of them were earned. UNC's Megan Wilkinson took the loss for the Bears as she pitched an inning of relief and gave up Robinson's grand slam.

Uresti, Robinson and Russell each recorded two hits for the Wolverines in the nightcap. Melissa Marcovecchio and Lindsey Smith led UNC, as they both also had two hits in the contest.

UVU will look for the series sweep against Northern Colorado on Saturday, when they will play another doubleheader beginning at noon.
