LOGAN, Utah -- Shorstop Krystin Jachim delivered the game-winning RBI in the top of the seventh inning as Utah Valley University notched a 3-2 victory over Utah State on Tuesday afternoon in Logan.

In a 2-2 ballgame, Jachim delivered a two-out, bases loaded single in the top of the seventh that brought home Megan Peay for the game-winning run. The base knock was the only hit on the day for Jachim, who leads the Pacific Coast Softball Conference in batting with a .414 average, but proved the difference in the ballgame as pitcher Tiffany Mills retired the side in the bottom half to seal the win.

"It wasn't the best day offensively for us, but we came through when we needed it," said head coach Rachel Hartgrove. "Brinkerhoff had the big triple early on and even though she was having a hard time getting comfortable in the box, I was happy to see Jachim get the crucial hit in the end."

USU (8-34) struck first, coming through with a run in the bottom of the second inning. With two outs and runners on second and third, Rachael Hunsaker poked a single into center field. The hit scored Kassandra Uchida from third, but Nicole Arrata, trying to score from second, was gunned out at home on a throw from UVU's Marie Williams.

Kylee Brinkerhoff provided a big hit for the Wolverines (25-15) in the top of the third, tripling to right-center and bringing Morgan Summers all the way around from first to score. That tally was doubled two batters later when Debra Lovell's grounder to third was mishandled allowing Brinkerhoff to coast home and give UVU a 2-1 advantage.

The lead was short-lived, though, as the Aggies leveled things in the bottom half of the same inning. After the first two hitters were retired, USU used a two-out rally as first baseman Christine Thomsen singled, then scored on Hailey Froton's triple.

The game remained tied at 2-2 for the next three innings. In the top of the seventh, the first three Wolverine batters reached base safely: a walk to Peay, a bunt single for Williams, and pinch-hitter Jamie North reached on an error. But the opportunity was almost squandered as Summers went down swinging and Brinkerhoff was put away on an infield fly before Jachim's timely single.

Coming on in relief in the fifth inning, Mills improved to 12-10 with the win while USU's Noelle Johnson fell to 3-12. Mills pitched 2.2 innings and didn't allow a hit in earning the decision.

Utah Valley will depart from the Beehive State for the first time in nearly a month when it resumes PCSC play at the University of San Diego. The four game series gets underway Saturday at 1 p.m. MT.
