Softball Adds Cortinas in Time for 2013
Jan. 10, 2013
OREM, Utah -- With less than a month until Opening Day, the Utah Valley University softball team has added one more to its 2013 roster. Interim head coach Rachel Hartgrove announced Thursday the signing of Jazmyne Cortinas, a catcher out of Bellflower, Calif. Cortinas, who had originally committed to play at Cal State Northridge, arrives in Orem after batting .350 and winning her team's Golden Glove award during her senior season at Downey High School. Cortinas was also named Second Team All-San Gabriel Valley after her final prep season. "Jazmyne will bring some much needed depth behind the plate for us," said Hartgrove. "She is a solid defender with a good, strong arm." UVU will open the 2013 season on Feb. 8 at the Red Desert Classic in St. George, Utah. The Wolverines are slated to face both South Dakota and Southern Utah that day.
