PORTLAND -- The Utah Valley University softball team was tabbed for a fifth place finish in 2013, according to the Pacific Coast Softball Conference preseason coaches' poll released Monday.

UVU, who went 33-26-1 overall with a 10-10 PCSC mark in 2012, was picked behind league-favorite BYU, Loyola Marymount, San Diego, and Saint Mary's.

Twelve letterwinners return for the Wolverines this season, including First Team All-PCSC selections Tiffany Mills (pitcher) and Jamie North (catcher).

The Wolverines ended league play in a fifth place tie out of 12 teams last season, finishing in a tie for second in the Mountain Division. UVU is the only holdover from that now evaporated division, joining BYU and the remaining Coastal Division schools to comprise the seven-team conference.

Rounding out the poll in sixth and seventh were CSU Bakersfield and Santa Clara, respectively.

Taking the top spot was PCSC newcomer BYU, who enters the conference riding a streak of eight consecutive NCAA Tournament bids out of the Mountain West and Western Athletic Conferences. The Cougars, who return 14 players from last season's 45-15 squad, received six of a possible seven first-place votes.

The only other school to receive a first-place nod was Saint Mary's, who came away fourth in the coaches' poll -- just one point behind third place San Diego. The Gaels went 15-4 in league play in 2012, winning the Coastal Division.

The 2013 Wolverine softball season gets underway on Feb. 8, as UVU will face South Dakota in the opening game of the Red Desert Classic in St. George, Utah.
