DENVER -- True freshman utility Hailey Kofler and senior pitcher Josi Summers combined to sweep the Western Athletic Conference's weekly awards on Monday after a big weekend at the Rebel Sprin Games. Kofler took Hitter of the Week honors and Summers nabbed Pitcher of the Week.
They are the first-ever Wolverines to garner a WAC weekly award in softball.
Kofler, a freshman out of Temecula, Calif., had a big weekend at the plate for Utah Valley (4-13), helping the Wolverines to a 4-0 weekend behind a .462 batting average with three home runs, two doubles, and seven RBI. She also posted a 1.308 slugging percentage and a .533 on-base percentage. Kofler's biggest hit of the weekend may have come in Saturday's game against Manhattan when she belted a two-run homer, her second of the game, over the wall to tie the game at 8-8 in the bottom of the sixth. UVU would go on to win the game in eight innings, 9-8.
In Sunday's action against Siena and Saint Peter's, Kofler notched another home run and a combined four RBI in two more wins.
In the circle, Summers went 2-0 with a 0.55 ERA and 11 strikeouts in two starts at the Rebel Spring Games. She threw 7.2 innings of an eight-inning affair against Sacred Heart, earning the win behind a season-high seven strikeouts. She then earned her second win of the season against Siena, allowing the Saints only one hit through 5.0 innings. She struck out four in the 3-1 UVU win.
Kofler and Summers will look to help the Wolverines extend their winning streak when the Rebel Spring Games resume on Tuesday in Winter Haven, Fla. Utah Valley will face Creighton at 11 a.m. MT before a rematch with Siena at 1 p.m.
